Keeping up with a blog is hard work. How do people do this?! To run a reading blog, it'd be smart to keep up with your reading, but I didn't do that very well. Throughout this semester I started to read a lot of different books, but I just couldn't get myself to finish most of them! That is definitely something I need to work on for next semester because to really blog about a book, you need to know what happens in the book and to know what happens you need to finish the thing.
If you are trying to finish a book, here is a short list that could help you out:
1. Don't go on Netflix. Most of the books I attempted to read this semester were on my phone, and you know what else is on my phone? Netflix. Bad things happen when you hear that little app calling your name.
2. Don't text anyone back. Just imagine sitting in your house and peacefully reading a book and all of a sudden, you hear your phone go off. You want to check it. You want to respond. You want to be reminded that yes, you do indeed have friends. NO! One text leads to another and all of a sudden, your book gets completely forgotten.
3. Don't let your mind wander. When you are getting ready to sit down and read, clear your mind of anything and everything. Get lost in the book. As soon as you can do that, reading 100 pages will only feel like 2. And maybe you could even get so deep into reading that it's not even reading anymore, it's you in the story, you as the main character, you saving the world.
Well I said it was a short list, and three is a pretty cool number, so I guess I'm done here... My next blog post will probably be next year so... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Smiles to Go/Dancing with the Devil
So I know that I said I would be able to say a lot more on Smiles to Go than what I did the first time, but that's not going to happen. The book itself was not hard to read or understand, but the part about protons, yeah that confused me. I did not understand why the main character was so obsessed with protons, or what there even was to obsess over! Protons, wow, so cool (that was sarcasm). So instead of continuing a post on a book I know nothing about because I stopped reading it, let's go to a book I actually enjoyed.
Dancing with the Devil by Katie Davis. Sounds pretty creepy, right? Sadly, it's not all that bad, at least not yet. This novel is about a girl named Mackenzie who has a love for biking, a dead mother, and who went through a rough childhood because of her grieving father. Mackenzie has been trying to get away from her father for a long time now, and has finally found her escape through a summer biking trip. The description makes this book seem like it is going to be really dark, so I feel like that is going to be happening very soon. So far in the book, it has just been a lot of rising action. I wish the story would hurry up so I can get to the juicy parts, but I guess that I just have to remember that slow and steady wins the race. All of this rising action is for a good reason. Part of the reason that I decided to start reading this was because in the description, the author said that it took her nine years to finish writing it. This fact made me feel like this novel would be really good because of how long it took for the author to finish it. So far, it hasn't been a disappointment.

I don't really know what this is...
This post is dedicated to Sam Terriblini (there is no way I spelled that right) because he said to write about something that wasn't a book.
HI SAM!!!!
Well I don't really know what to talk about now, so let's go to the obvious topic, 5 Seconds of Summer aka 5SOS. Yeah, okay, maybe I am a weeee bit obsessed, but I can't help it! I didn't choose the fan-girl life, the fan-girl life chose me. Did I really just say that? Wow I'm slightly disappointed in myself right now. Sorry to people who understand where my disappointment is coming from. 5SOS is not considered a boy band (Atneya) because each member plays an instrument and, according to dictionary.com, a boy band is a "trendy pop group of young male singers" which means they all sing, not they all play instruments. I rest my case here and I think I may have just accidentally done a tiny version of a TIQA *cringe* WHAT HAS SCHOOL DONE TO ME?!
So I managed to fix my lampshade today. I had to tape the shade onto the stand part of the lamp because the sizes don't match up, but the first time I taped it, I completely messed up. The shade was so lopsided and awkward, but after a few months of that, I finally decided to fix it. Go me! *cue round of applause and standing ovation*
I really have no idea what I'm even talking about in this so if you aren't my teacher then I am very proud of you for getting this far, not proud enough that I would cue a standing ovation for you, but still proud. My Skittles from Halloween are stale and now I'm sad. WAIT I JUST LOOKED BEHIND ME AND MY LAMPSHADE IS EVEN WORSE THAN BEFORE. I need to go fix it now so

Smiles to Go
I picked up a random book because I needed a book to read and this was the outcome. I don't really know what to think about Smiles to Go by Jerry Spinelli. It has some weird science stuff in it and makes protons sound like the most interesting thing in the world. I also don't understand the title at all, but it will probably make a lot more sense when I get further into it. Once I do get further into it, I will be able to say a lot more about it.
Before starting Smile to Go, I read the first couple chapters of a book titled Turned. I only started it because it was free, and that should have been my first indication of how much it would suck. Throughout the whole book, well, the part of it that I actually read, I felt like it was written by a 13 year old girl. Yeah, I don't even remember what her name was so... I guess I'm done here.

More from: Four
It took me so long to finish this book. Not because it was a bad book, but because I just haven't read a real book in a while. I tend to read stories on an app/website called Wattpad. On Wattpad, people will think of a plot idea then post the first chapter and then they just keep updating new chapters so you read as they write. Most of the stories are exactly the same with a good girl/bad boy cliche-type thing, but I'm still addicted. But enough of Wattpad, let's go to what I actually read for this.
Four was really good. I loved the extra little chapters at the end that had moments with Tris from the first 3 books in Divergent, but in Four's point of view. The 4th section called The Traitor also overlapped parts of Divergent, included the attack on Tris. While reading Divergent, I didn't know that Four was able to recognize all three people that attacked Tris, or maybe I just don't remember. The thoughts that were going through Four's head definitely showed how much he cared for Tris, even though he couldn't recognize them and it was really interesting to watch their relationship unfold.
Tris helping Four through his fear landscape always gets to me. I just think it is so cute when she manages to help him through his worst fears. Tris comforts Four and helps him keep his sanity when faced with his fears. Imagine trying to comfort your best friend when they are being face with their absolute worst fear ever. Do you think you could do it? I feel like them freaking out would make me freak out and me freaking out would make them freak out even more which would just lead to a terrible disaster and we would all die. Yeah, I don't think the Dauntless faction would be my place to go...

Four (A Divergent Collection)
Four is the fourth book of the Divergent series, and is centered around the life of the character Four, with four sections in the book. Is that enough four's for you? Just like the other three books, Four is written by Veronica Roth.
The first of the four sections in this book is titled "The Transfer". It gives a bit of background information of Four's life, most of which you should already know if you've read Divergent, and starts off the initiation process for the Dauntless faction. I think that the initiation will have all of the same tasks as Tris's initiation did, but in a slightly different order. Throughout the whole trilogy before this spin-off, I had wondered what Four's name was throughout the initiation process, but now I can finally sleep at night because I have figured it out.
One of the parts of the initiation for Dauntless is called the fear landscape, where you have to face all of your fears. In Divergent, this landscape was the last part of the initiation, but in Four, it is the first. Most people have fears that are in the teen numbers, but not Four. Four had four fears, which is how he got his name. Because he was named during initiation, I was confused on what he went by pre-fear landscape. It was his first task as a Dauntless trainee so no one really knew each other's names, and it was as if Four's real name never existed.
Veronica Roth has an amazingly captivating style, which means that I am most definitely going to continue reading this book.
